چکیده

A commercially available poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) coating was modified using a combination of 1–10wt.% bis(trimethoxysilylethyl)benzene and dibutyltin dilaurate as the hydrolysis catalyst. Results of attenuated total reflectance (ATR)–FTIR analysis indicated the modification resulted in a hybrid coating material containing silicate moieties covalently bonded to the PVB polymer chains. Gravimetric analysis indicted the bis-silane addition resulted in a reduction in the diffusion coefficient of the parent coating to 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (2-CEES), dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), diisopropyl methylphosphonate, and methyl salicylate; the most significant reduction was observed for 2-CEES and DMMP at temperatures ≥50 ◦C. Glass transition temperature, abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and coating hardness were increased upon incorporation of the bis-silane. Despite incorporation of an inorganic component, coating flexibility was retained at low temperature (−15 ◦C). © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Gas adsorption gates based on ultrathin composite polymer films.

High surface area alumina coatings were prepared on surface acoustic wave (SAW) mass balances. These coatings were fabricated by anodic etching of evaporated aluminum films. The coatings consisted of roughly collinear pores penetrating through the monolithic alumina film. The nanoporous (NP) coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, and the pore number density and diameter we...

Colorful Hydrophobic Poly(Vinyl Butyral)/Cationic Dye Fibrous Membranes via a Colored Solution Electrospinning Process

Colorful nanofibrous membranes have attracted much attention for their visual varieties and various functionalities. In this article, a colored solution electrospinning process was used to fabricate colorful hydrophobic poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB)/cationic dye nanofibrous membranes (NFMs) successfully. The color and morphology of these as-spun nanofibrous membranes have been analyzed by colorimet...

Diffusivities of Dialkyl Phthalates in Plasticized Poly(vinyl butyral): Impact on Binder Thermolysis

Hot-stage/Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (FTIR-M) was used to determine the diffusivities of a series of dialkyl phthalates in poly(viny1 butyral) (PVB) spin-coated films. The diffusivities ranged from lo-'' to lo-'' cmz/s for the isotherms investigated (60" to 150°C). In their respective temperature regimes, dimethyl phthalate and diethyl phthalate exhibited nonlinear diffusion b...

Poly(oxyethylene) based surface coatings for poly(dimethylsiloxane) microchannels.

Control of surface properties in microfluidic systems is an indispensable prerequisite for successful bioanalytical applications. Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microfluidic devices are hampered from unwanted adsorption of biomolecules and lack of methods to control electroosmotic flow (EOF). In this paper, we propose different strategies to coat PDMS surfaces with poly(oxyethylene) (POE) molecu...

Modification of Polyaniline/Polystyrene and Polyaniline/Metal Oxide Structure by Surfactant

Polyaniline/polystyrene (PAni/PS) composites were prepared in aqueous solution by polymerization of styrene and aniline in two-stages. Firstly styrene polymerize by using Ammonium persulfate (APS) as an oxidant in the presence of various surfactants such as poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC), poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and surfactive dopant sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate...
